Coach Matt Fleischacker Joins XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons Coaching Staff

After two seasons with the Statesman, Fleischacker is making the leap to the professional level, becoming the youngest member of Seattle’s staff. He will serve as the Sea Dragons the teams’ linebacker’s coach.

In his time in Geneva, Fleischacker shared the Football team’s defensive coordinator position with Michael Green, along with coaching outside linebackers. He played an integral part in a Statesman defense that ranked among the top 20 in total defense(16th), pass defense(14th), and scoring defense(12th).

When reflecting on his time with the Statesmen coach Fleischacker had this to say, "I loved my time in Geneva, I loved my time at Hobart, I loved the players I worked with, and I couldn’t of asked for a better two years than I had up in Geneva"

During the 2022 season, Fleischacker announced he would be joining the Sea Dragons coaching staff, while still finishing out the season with the Statesman. Before HWS, Fleischacker coached outside linebackers for Mercer University, as well as serving as a graduate assistant coach for Penn State and Appalachian State University. Fleishacker will be the youngest coach on Seattle’s staff which is filled with proven coaches.

Coach Fly credits his time at Hobart for making him a better coach, saying, "What I learned from my time at Hobart is that football is football, it doesn't what level you’re at, football is football, the same drills I did at Penn state are the same drills at Hobart, and there the same drills I do with my guys at Seattle."

When looking ahead to upcoming season Fleishacker is excited to take advantage of being part of a coaching staff loaded with experince, "I'm most excited to just enjoy this ride, I am learning from incredible coaches that have a ton of NFL experience and college experience. I'm trying to be as much of a sponge as I can". That veteran coaching staff is headlined with former NFL coach of the year Jim Haslett, who was with the New Orleans Saints from 2000-2005.

The Sea Dragons look to kick off their season on February 19th in Washington D.C. and coach Fleischackers linebacker room looks to be a strength of this team. Seattle has high hopes for this team as they rank #4 in XFL News Hub’s preseason power rankings.
