Day in The Life of Hobart Football(Special Assignment)-Draft

Thursday, Nov. 18th

5:00 AM

It's five in the morning and my first alarm is going off and my Thursday is about to start. I lay in bed for a bit as each of my alarms go off every five minutes. After a few alarms go off and it's 5:20 AM I finally get out of bed to begin my Thursday. I have 40 minutes until my 6:00 AM lift starts in the RFK weight room, so I start my mourning pre-lift routine of getting ready. Today's lift clothes are our team-issued grey shirt and grey shorts, and as I get them on, I pack my lift bag with my lifting shoes and a change of clothes. Around 5:35 I start walking out of my dorm, which is close to the weight room, but I want to get there nice and early to get ready for the lift. On my walk I think about the lift and my day ahead, today is perfect Thursday on our team, which to Hobart football means it’s the last day of physical work for the week and we want to do our best to make everything we do perfect, we want to be perfect in the lift, classes, film, and of course practice. As I get to the weight room I weigh in and start stretching out, while I talk to some of my teammates who are already there. As everyone starts to pile into the weight room I start to mentally get ready for the next 45 minutes of an intense lift led by our strength coach, Coach Grey, who always has an absurd amount of energy for six in the morning, but that energy is enough to get us all fired up.

6:50 AM

As we all walk out of the weight room, dripping with sweat and feeling a nice pump after finishing with arms, we all grab our shaker bottles to get protein from our coach who is waiting for us at the door. After getting my protein, I walk out with others as we get ready to embark out into the freezing Geneva morning as the sun is starting to rise over the colleges. After making my way back to my dorm I shower and get dressed for the rest of my day, all while trying to not wake up my roommates who don’t have a lift for another hour. Around 7:15 I’m all dressed, and my attention turns to my 8:30 AM class. One nice thing about having lifts at six in the morning is I have plenty of time to get work done before. I sit in my common room, turn on Good Morning Football, do homework, and get a cup of coffee, I do this pretty much every Thursday.

8:20 AM

After about an hour of homework and a large cup of coffee, I pack my bag for my history class. I leave my room and make a short walk to class and get to class a few minutes early. Today we have a short test, followed by a short lecture and we talk about our ongoing project. We get out of class a little early and now I have my only break of the day for the next two hours.

I relax in my room for a little as I watch some tv and play Xbox as I wait for my roommate to come back from class. After about thirty minutes or so my roommate gets back, and we get ready to go watch a film with our O-line coach. After a long season, we are finally in the postseason, and we have a bowl game on Saturday in Pennsylvania against Westminster college. We found this out on Monday while we watched the bowl game selection show as a team. We’ve already watched film on the other team and today at film we watch film from this week at practice. After about 45 minutes and a couple of clips of film I wish I could take back, we wrap up our meeting.

12:00 PM

Now that I still have an hour and a half until my next class, my roommate and I go to the dining hall to get a meal in before the rest of our day. We eat for a little while and see some from there and after about thirty minutes we start to get ready to go back to our dorm. With the rest of the time I have until class, I do some more homework for my upcoming classes.

1:30 PM

As I’m in my room my second class is about to start, it’s my Entrepreneurial Studies class that’s on zoom, so I get situated at my desk and join the zoom. For the next hour and a half, I sit in class and for most of it, we are workshopping our final project without partners. As class wraps up, I start to get ready for my next class at 3:10 pm. I make the short walk to my favorite class, Sports Writing, and sit down and get ready for class. Today we talk about our upcoming assignment and after talking with the class a have a good idea of what I want to do for my assignment, I’m thinking about something like a day in the life of Hobart football. After we workshop our ideas, class starts to come to a close and I start to head back to my room for practice.

4:45 PM

Practice today starts at 5:00 PM and I have to hustle back to my room to grab my lift clothes and my bag for practice. I hustle over to the field as some of my teammates are starting to come out to the field. Me and a few other of my teammates have to come out to practice a few minutes late because of class but get dressed for practice and put my pads on as quick as I can, and I make it out to the field in the middle of warmups. Today is our last day of physical work and for the next two hours we work our butts off in drills and running plays vs the scout team.

7:15

After we get out of practice, I make my way back into the locker room and hop in the shower to clean up, and warm up from how cold it was outside. I get dressed and throw my laundry onto my loop and in the laundry shut so my stuff is clean for the next day. Now we head over to the dining hall that’s filled with my teammates. We all eat together as I can finally start to relax as my day is winding down. Eventually, I make my way back to my room and do the last of my homework for the day. After about thirty minutes I’m finally done with my work and get to relax. Me and my roommates throw on Thursday Night Football and sit back and relax. Starting my day at five has me tired but it’s become so routine that I’m used to it. For the rest of the night, I just relax and get ready to travel four and a half hours tomorrow for our bowl game, as we hope to end our season on a high note.
